“DESIGN FOR THE FUTURE”…

SYNOPSIS:

I believe every architects has their own unique design process and knowledge . And if you are at the beginning of the process find your comfort space for evolving and developing your design .However some may start their projects based on “FORM – FOLLOWS-FUNCTION” and other “FUNCTION-FOLLOWS-FORMS”…. or either by CONCEPTS oriented.

So here i can track a few steps that i usually begin with.

1.ANALYSIS -STUDY

Before stepping into the design , the study , analyzing of the project , detailed description are important .

Should have a clear idea what you’re going to deal with it.

Understand your client requirements.

Improve your basic science knowledge.

Understand the site context.

2.CONCEPT – EVOLUTION

This step tends to be the most likely , the first step of processing the design. However the architects / students thinks about the concept based on what they have found on the site , but it is advisable to come up with the idea / concept that should reinvent the future.

Here you can show your creativity and information you have gained in previous stage .And however the fundamental concept must hitch with the plan and scheme of the design. So designing or exploring a concept must include either based on

SHAPES , COLORS , PATTERNS, STYLES OF ARCHITECTURE like

  • sustainable architecture,
  • modern architecture,
  • vernacular architecture etc.

3.CASE STUDIES – REFERENCE

The most essential and crucial stage where the architects / students not to skip before proceeding to the programming stage. So here are the three types of case studies and their following steps:

NET CASE STUDY:

Browse your related case studies.

Understand the pros and cons and their concept & evolution.

Overlook their site plan , building design plans, sections , elevations, models, renderings and sheets composition.

Finally refer their techniques and their problem solving methods & ideas.

LITERATURE CASE STUDY:

Book reference helps you in enriching your knowledge and deeper your concepts.Hence find your required books and understand their concepts and figure out in your design.

LIVE CASE STUDY:

The most prominent and advisable that every student / architect should follow is to go for live case study because it provides a detailed rich qualitative information.

Provides insight for further research.

It is used to generate in-depth , multi faceted understanding of a complex issue in its real-life context.

4. SHAPE YOUR CONCEPT

The third stage of designing is shaping your concept and it is so main as you compile all your studies , ideas , concepts etc. Here understanding all your ambiguous ideas by adding a details to the design.

Either follow FORMS or FUNCTIONALITY or CONCEPT into your design.

Start with BUBBLE DIAGRAM.

ZONING plays a major role .

Understand your standards .

Write down your REQUIREMENTS

Rough SITE PLAN / MASTER PLAN.

5.DEVELOPMENT

The final stage where the architects / students / designers tends to develop their design as per comfort.

Start your single line plan….Get an approval / grasp an advice so any changes can be made or designed at the begining itself.

Double checked / approved DOUBLE LINE PLAN with detailing like FURNITURE DETAILS , WINDOWS DOORS , COLUMN , JOINERY DETAILS etc……where all are mandatory.

Basic ELECTRICAL LAYOUT is to be given .

Come up with SECTIONS, ELEVATIONS (front , back , east , west) if needed and for more detailed explanation.

Prepare and evolve the MASTER PLAN and SITE PLAN with LEVELS , PARKING AREA , PEDESTRIAN , CURB WALLS , LANDSCAPING etc…

3D modelling and rendering could take your design or the concept to the next level .

Composing all your plans and detailed drawing in to the sheets and presenting it could be the last stage where your design gets completed.
